Alone for the weekend…

Well, sort of. Anne is gone this weekend, she is on a free trip to Paris until Monday evening. She got to go through a tour company that she is contracted to take some kids to France next summer. I don’t know what to do besides stay awake, because an empty bed is a sad thing when you aren’t used to it. Makes me wish I had a dog or a cat.

So I’m sitting here listening to Jose Gonzalez, which is blowing my mind again. Its beautiful. I don’t see much live music, but I’d be real curious to see this guy.

Anne and I went on a hike at White Horse Ranch open space just west of our house. The breeze was cool and the wildflowers were still out. I must say, we are quite a photogenic pair here.

Now is when I tell you about our baby blog. Anne and I are going to do our best to keep it updated with gourds of pictures and memorabilia. You will be astounded by the cuteness of his or her babyness.

Pizza

Yesterday, Anne and I drove up Coal Creek Canyon, through a pouring rain storm and drove up to the East Portal of the Moffat Tunnel. We got there around three, and the weather was beautiful…blessed for a Rocky Mountain summer afternoon. Soon enough, Scott and Claire, Marie and Matthew drove up and we started walking. The trail starts at about 9000 ft, and there were wildflowers galore, Columbines, Indian Paintbrush, Mountain Bluebell…the aspens were a luminescent green and the firs had moss hanging off. Anne was feeling a little tired – she just got back from North Carolina and was feeling the elevation doubly, so we sat and talked above the stream. The others came back, and we went to Nederland and got pizza! The nediterranean was our choice: pine nuts, pesto, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, goat chease, roasted red peppers…it was delicious. I had three Dr. Peppers. Then we kinda sorta got lost on the way home. What a great Sunday afternoon!

I’ve been trying to figure out what to write here for a few weeks, and I can’t come up with anything particular – that will keep me writing regularly and keep me connected with any community that would keep reading.

So for lack of anything else to say, here is a bit of Jonathan-logue. There is a lot going on in some ways here in Golden, and not much in others. The “a lot” part is that Anne is pregnant! We’re starting to think its a girl, although we have no proof yet. Anne’s pregnancy thus far has not been awful; and now she’s been feeling a lot better for a few weeks. The kid is due at the end of December. Other than that, I am taking summer classes, figuring out how to finish our basement, reading the Lord of the Rings (favorite book for the last twenty years) and also “Mountains Beyond Mountains” which is changing my life.

Anne is out of town this week, hanging out with her family in NC; I stayed home because I have already missed a week of class this summer. I’m off to go breakfasting and sailing with my dad in a few minutes. Happy Fourth!

Good morning. I have just finished my first year of architecture studio classes. I woke up today feeling GREAT! I went for a two hour ride up Chimney Gulch and down the chutes of the Apex trail. It was fast, muddy, green, blooming, steep, heart pounding in your neck, deer startling, only running into two people, wind cooling you off, sun making you sweat great.

What else is going on…Anne has only one more month to teach this year, and she has done well. I am becoming more impressed with this person I married all the time. She doesn’t let her kids mistreat her, or anyone, and she strives to find the next step that will improve her classroom atmosphere as well as each individual relationship with her students. She is going to do nothing this summer. And by nothing I mean hike, swim, spend time with friends, read, watch TV, garden, nap, and visit her family. Our sister-in-law in North Carolina is about two months pregnant.

I am planning on taking 9 credits (three classes), and working. I’m not sure where yet, but I am crossing my fingers that I will be able to leave Colorado after my classes end in early August, and travel out to California to visit my brother and sister-in-law in Orange County, and then up to Camp Calvin Crest, my home! There will be a small Cosby that we need to meet. I hope there will be time for singing and playing guitar, for writing poetry and mountain biking in the midst of this.

Before all this, we are going down to Charleston, SC, to spend a week with my in-laws in the tidal marshes. There will be much fishing, riding in boats, exploring, seeing of wildlife, eating good food, and bike rides on the beach. Can’t wait. Love you all.
